Keen observers will notice some odd team selections in the latest London League encounter – but the good news is that the Executioners team emerged as comfortable winners.
Penn, Freddie and Andy made the trek up to Hampstead to play the club at UCS, with the match confined to three a side because the home side have only one court. As a result, the match took the form of three singles, followed by three doubles.
What was odd was that two of the UCS team (Terry and Christian) had played for the Executioners in the previous weekend’s RFA Club Championship, while Freddie (playing for the Executioners in this match) had played for his school’s club in the RFA tournament.
Anyway, after a brutal opening singles match – in which Penn finally overcame Terry 15-13 – the next two singles were much more one-sided affairs, with both going to the Executioners. This was a pattern repeated in the doubles, with Penn and Freddie losing a hard-hitting battle 12-15 to Terry and Christian, before the second and third doubles ended in big wins for the Executioners.
In the end, the club emerged as victors over UCS by 87 points to 37.
